What was the date of the Sendai Japanese Earthquake
March 11th 2011
Where were you during the earthquake
I was at school.
Did you know this was not a normal earthquake
I knew that the earthquake was not normal, it felt very big.
What happened during the earthquake
Everyone was in panic, so I think most students did not hear what teachers said, but teachers tried to save students so I was holding teachers hands, We crouched under the tables, or went inside a small classroom.
Was anyone injured
No, but one of my friends was on a ladder because we were preparing for graduation, but she was not seriously hurt.
What was physically happened to the surroundings
Desks and chairs were waving ( moving)
Was there any damage to the school
No, but the road was cracked
What did you do after earthquake
The teachers said we need students to go back home, but that day I had coaching school ( tutoring) so I went there first, but there was a power outage, which continued for a few days, water was working at home but many places weren't.
Where there many aftershocks
There were but they were not as big as the first one, the next day there was a big one but not very big, a week later I was in the shower when another earthquake struck. The power and water went out and I was scared and I wanted to go outside with my family to safety but I was naked.
How was your communication to the rest of Japan affected
We learnt of the damage to the rest of Japan through the radio, as the tv was not working.
How did people react to the news about the rest of Japan
They were very shocked, and very sad, my friend lost her grandparents in the earthquake, she was crying a lot, and I remember her coming to school with puffy red eyes.
Was it hard to get food and supplies
It was very hard to get food, everyone rushed to collect food after the first big earthquake, the shops ran out and it was very crowded.
Did you worry about family
Yes I worried because my little sister was at home alone and she cried when the earthquake happened.
When did you start school again?
We still went to school the next day.
What did people do when they found out about earthquake in the rest of Japan?
We did lots of fund raising, after a few days on tv show only information about earthquake, names of dead and survivors were broadcasted.
